Pub Quiz Night

Hi!

Our pub quiz night went down well with all. It included some fantastic entertainment, great raffle prizes and a grand total of £900 raised!

We're so pleased to say that this has helped to take us over the 80% that we needed to secure our place on the trek...so a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who has supported us!!!

We'd also like to say a massive thank you to the team at Lycetts Insurance, Newcastle, for their corporate sponsorship. We'll be wearing their logo on our kit with pride throughout the trek.

The idea behind the challenge

After meeting at Newcastle Uni in 2001, we discovered that we had a common interest in running. We set ourselves a challenge to complete the Great North Run together and, like many, gave up our Sunday morning lie-in's to train. Earlier this year, with five successful half marathons under our belts, we agreed that we would like to set our sights a bit higher...

Lyndsey lost her Grandfather to cancer at the end of 2007 and so we wanted to make our challenge one which also involved fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support. After comparing many challenge organisations, we found Charity Challenge was what we were looking for and agreed that a trek along the Great Wall of China would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

About The Great Wall

The Great Wall of China was originally constructed to keep out nomadic tribes who raided China's northern frontier. The challenge starts in Jinshanling with a vigorous trek that loops along the mountains either side of the Gubeikou Gateway. Each day we will trek approx 12kms along the path that twists and winds its way along the mountains, interspersed with crumbling watchtowers.

The trek is demanding and by the time we get there we will have spent 10 months training, including a trek of Mount Snowdon and the Great North Run.
